Well I decided to go ahead and put her on the canvas. Tried a little bit of a different way than what I usually do and I think it worked quite well. Yea! You'll probably notice that she's a mirror image now and that comes from the way I transferred her. I drew her on tracing paper with a regular pencil, then I flipped over the drawing and used a bone folder and burnished the drawing onto the canvas. It worked fabulously!!!
Then I proceeded to go over my transfer with pencil and then did all the shading....something else different from the way I usually go about the process. Trying to stretch myself a little more and shake things up a bit....gotta keep things fresh, right? :D
And here's where she is tonight. Think I've about got all the shading done on her. Gonna spray her with a workable fixative to keep the pencil from smearing when I start adding paint tomorrow. I'll try to post pics of her tomorrow once I get a little further on her.
Thank y'all so much for all the sweet comments, encouraging words, and lovely emails. They mean so much to me!!! Y'all are all a bunch of sweeties!!! I'll try my best to respond to all of them some time in the next week or so. Right now, I'm trying to focus on getting some painting done so most of my left over energy (which has not been plentiful lately) needs to be spent in my studio.
~love & hugs
A better peek at a new drawing I'll be painting soon, I hope. This isn't the whole drawing, but it gives you an idea of the direction this painting will take. Planning on doing this on a 16"x16" gallery style canvas, so the spacing will change a bit from the original sketch. Funny thing is that when I sat down to draw yesterday, I hadn't planned on doing this large of a drawing and it felt like the drawing drew itself...guess God had another thing in mind. :D
So much going on around here right now that I just didn't have the energy to create the way I usually do. Instead of doing nothing, I decided to just play around with something I've been wanting to try for so long now....an abstract painting with graphic elements. No stamps, no stencils, no sketches....just a canvas, paint, some paint brushes, and a palette knife.
It's my first try at something along these lines and, as with all things, getting it just how I want it takes practice. Pretty happy with my first attempt. Plus I tried out some things I probably would have never tried otherwise that I know I will be incorporating into future paintings.
So what about you? What new thing are you going to try? My advice...don't overthink it....just do it! You never know unless you try. Even if it doesn't turn out the way you'd hoped, you'll learn something along the way that you wouldn't have had the chance to learn without trying. :D
Okey dokey....I'm trying this again since it seems that some of you are having problems viewing the video from the link I put in yesterday's last post. I'd love to get some feedback on this new piece. :) I'm hoping to finish it up today and maybe start another piece too....I've got several backgrounds that I started a few months ago that are beggin' to be finished. ;) :D
Oh and this is the first time I'm using the new video intro I put together at the beginning of the summer. Little did I know it would take me this long to get to use it! LOL!
Threw together a quick slideshow of the pics I snapped during the progress of this new piece today. I'm gonna answer an email or two, then I'm gonna hit the hay! :D G'nite y'all!!
Click here and the slideshow will open in a new window
P.S. Let me know if you have any trouble viewing the slideshow video. It's a Quicktime video, so you may need that in order to view it. I didn't have the energy to try to load it onto Flickr or YouTube, so I thought I'd just try to post it here directly. :)
Ahhh it feels sooooo good to have paint on my hands again!!!! :D A sweet artist friend of mine has been busy making ACEOs and it inspired me to pull out the linen canvas ACEO cards I just bought and play with some new techniques for a brand new class.....yep, ya heard me right. ;) I'm brainstorming for some new classes. One of which I'm close to announcing on my mailing list and the other I'm just in the planning stages of right now.
The first one will be a inspiration art journal class focused on helping you find your "style". The one I'm playing with in the studio right now.....well it has to do with creating backgrounds and it's a
technique class, so it'll just be all art play and fun with no pressure to have a polished finished piece!!! Just me filling your head with tons of techniques and lettin' the paint fly! LOL! :D
Aiden had a great day on his first day of kindergarten yesterday! Thanks so much y'all for all your sweet comments and well wishes! He was so excited to go back today....although I did have a bit of a problem getting him going this morning, so I guess the excitement has died down a bit. ;) But he really seems to love it, so I hope he'll flourish there.
Below is a pic of him after leaving his classroom. He was full of smiles! Then I had brought him a special snack to have in the car on the way home. I think he shared a bit of it with his best friend Simon (the bear in the background)....he's such a good sharer. :)
And much to my surprise, I had two deer cross the road in front of me as I pulled out of our subdivision to go pick up Aiden yesterday. Thankfully there was no one behind me and I had my camera with me. It's a
blurry shot, but it's the first one I've managed to get of the beautiful deer we share the area with.
I'd better get back to work in the studio....gosh it's lunchtime already!!!! Man, time sure does fly! Oh and speaking of my classes, my "Organic Dimensions" backgrounds/collage class starts in just over a week (Sept. 15th), so you still have just over a week to sign up for the last time I'll be offering this class in 2008.
